A Maratha, one of the leaders of the First War of Independence, Nana Saheb was born in 1824 to Narayan Bhatt and Ganga Bai. In 1827 his parents went to the court of the last Peshwa Baji Rao, who adopted Nana Saheb, thus making him heir-presumptive to the throne.
Kanpur was recaptured by the British under General Havelock and the last serious engagement (16 July, 1857)

కాన్పూర్: ఇక్కడ తిరుగుబాటుకు నానాసాహెబ్ నాయకత్వం వహించాడు. రావుసాహిబ్, తాంతియాతోపే, అజీముల్లాఖాన్ (సలహాదారు) అతడికి మద్దతుగా నిలిచారు. కాన్పూర్‌ను 1857, డిసెంబర్‌లో బ్రిటిష్ సైన్యాధికారి కొలిన్ క్యాంప్‌బెల్ తిరిగి స్వాధీనం చేసుకున్నాడు. నానాసాహెబ్ నేపాల్‌కు పారిపోయాడు. 1859లో ప్రభుత్వం ఇతడిని కాల్చి చంపింది.

Zafar was also a very talented Urdu poet and musician in his own right. He had written a large number of ghazals and his court was home to several Urdu writers of great repute including Mirza Ghalib, Dagh, Mumin, and Zauq.
